Rob Z. – Harker Heights, Texas

For being the first house I bought Paula made it a great experience and was outstanding during the whole thing! I was not a bit nervous as she was there every step of the way! She is awesome for the first time buyer and I would recommend her to all the military guys at Ft Hood! You can’t go wrong! She even stepped up and her and Richard took care of the house while I was in Iraq! ~Rob Z.

Guest bedroom and guest bathroom ideas- Killeen homes – Killeen real estate

Be the perfect host…

Wow your overnight guests with a luxurious and well stocked guest room and bath. I like to take the shampoos, lotions and conditioners with me from my hotel stays (I paid for them right?) and use them in a basket in my guest bath. Over time I have accumulated many different kinds plus shower caps, toothpastes, toothbrushes etc that are all perfect for my guests when they stay over at my home. If you don’t stay in hotels much, you can still find individual sized toiletries in the travel section of your Target, Walmart or drugstore.

It should go without saying, but I will say it anyway… CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN is the key here. Your guests aren’t expecting 5-Star luxury accommodations but that doesn’t mean you can’t strive for it. If you don’t have time for a thorough cleaning -let the professionals handle it this time. If you do have time (and energy) – don’t forget the corners, baseboards and ceiling fan!

Here is a list of a few items that will have your guests begging to come back soon!

Small Bathroom Ideas and Organization

Sometimes you just need a little inspiration to tackle a task… like decorating and organizing a small bathroom. Every house has at least one and no one ever seems to know quite what to do with it. So instead we cram everything under the sink and hope like crazy we never actually need anything from under there.

Here are a few tips to help get your creative juices flowing and turn your small bathroom into a functioning part of the house.

A tiered basked will serve many functions and won’t take up much room on your vanity or floor. Check Hobby Lobby, flea markets, discount kitchen stores and Walmart.

Above the door shelves are perfect for rarely used items or extra towels and even for meds that should be out of reach from little hands.

Coat hooks instead of towel bars will provide more space for hanging.

A Lazy Susan works just as good under the bathroom counter as it does in the kitchen cabinet.

Shallow ledge shelving or crown molding shelves offer fantastic storage and display for perfume bottles and nail polish. Find these at Hobby Lobby and IKEA

Vintage gym locker baskets not only look good but are practical for just about anything in the bathroom. They can be easily hung on the wall with small cup hooks. Check Etsy, Ebay and flea markets for true vintage baskets.

Mason jars are just right for bathroom items like Q-tips, cotton balls, bandaids and about 1000 other little things. Walmart, grocery stores and dollar stores sell jars by the cases and in all sizes.

The space behind the toilet is usually wasted – use it for shelving to store extra paper, towels and magazines.

PVC pipes cut to fit inside the cabinet door make practical storage for hot irons and cords.

Over the door shoe organizer is ideal for those everyday items you use but want out of site.

Superbowl Party Ideas! – Killeen Homes – Fort Hood Real Estate

Search homes for sale in Killeen Texas – PaulaSOLDit.com

Planning to invite guests over for the Superbowl this year? I have been tossing around the idea but am a little nervous since I recently downsized my home. Entertaining in a 3300 SF home was a cinch… doing it in a 1500 SF home – is a challenge to say the least – but it can be done!

1) I think the #1 thing to consider is seating. No one wants to hang out with you if they will be standing for hours – or sitting on a hard floor. So, count your possible seats and don’t over-invite. My home can comfortable accommodate about 8 adults – and then it starts getting a little crowded. Upholstered stools or floor cushions would be perfect for temporary extra seating.

2) The next thing of course… FOOD! What is everyone going to munch on during the game? Keep it simple! Simple doesn’t mean “scant” – it just means “easy” – for YOU and for your guest. 2-bite foods are best – items that don’t require a fork hopefully – but definitely not a full set of utensils. Dips are great – but make sure you have the appropriate dishes for them. I always hate seeing yummy cheese dip and then having to slop it on a flat plate – no good. If you will be serving dips – consider 4 oz. clear plastic cups for guests to use.  Wooden skewers are also a great way to spear a meatball or little smokies and they look awesome on the table in a vase.

3) Don’t forget the bathroom(s). Trust me, you’ll thank me later for this. Your Superbowl bathroom should not be without the following;

  • A burning candle (please be safe about it especially if there will be kids or drunk adults around.
  • Fresh hand towels (2 or 3 and change them out every hour or so as needed)
  • An empty trash bin with a liner (the liner is key here – later you can throw out other people’s trash without having a germ meltdown)
  • Hand soap (this doesn’t need an explanation)
  • Air freshener – out in the OPEN where people can SEE it (hopefully they will use it)
  • Copious amounts of toilet tissue – best placed in a basket or bin so folks aren’t rummaging through your cabinets in a panic)

Copperas Cove Homes

Great article from the Cove Herald about future plans for Copperas Cove Texas. I went to Copperas Cove High School from 1986 – 1989 and the town has changed very little since then – until just recently. Copperas Cove homes have popped up in all outlying areas and have expanded all the way to Kempner and Pidcoke. The loop around Copperas Cove will help tremendously with the traffic jam that we all loath while trying to get through town. As a former resident of Copperas Cove, I am sure I share a lot of excitement with current residents who will be able to enjoy new businesses and a much needed facelift on a wonderful little town.

Plans ahead to beautify Business 190 and downtown

By Wendy Sledd | Copperas Cove Herald | Posted: Friday, January 24, 2014

With the new U.S. Highway 190 that loops around Copperas Cove scheduled to open this spring, plans are already in the works to beautify what will become Business  Hwy 190.

Councilwoman Marty Smith was selected as chairman of the committee to oversee the extensive project.“This is one I really wanted on. We will work with businesses to help spruce up and fix up. We plan to take the island out and make more of a landscape and beautify the area,” Smith said.

She and her husband have traveled to different cities to see what they are doing. They have taken photos to demonstrate the ways that both the city and businesses along Business 190 can enhance the area and make it more pleasing to not only citizens, but visitors in the area.

Smith said the city will use a grant awarded to Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful.

Each year, KCCB sends in a submission for the Governors Community Achievement Award, said Silvia Rhoads, city recycling coordinator. The overall $2 million award, sponsored by Texas Department of Transportation and administered by Keep Texas Beautiful, is shared by 10 communities in Texas. The amount a community receives is determined by population size. Rhoads said Copperas Cove is in category 6 with an award of $210,000 in the form of a landscaping grant.

“One of the requirements is that the beautification be done along a TXDOT right of way,” Rhoads said. “KCCB, the city and TXDOT will work closely together to ensure the beautification meets all requirements by TXDOT. An exact project has yet to be determined.”

Councilman and Mayor Pro-tem Frank Sefford told agency leaders at a meeting Jan. 13 that beautification is also a priority for the downtown area. “We’ve already done a lot of planning and projecting 20 years down the road,” Sefford said. “We will have a standardization of how everything looks. When one looks good, they all look good.”

Smith is also the council liaison to the newly formed citizens’ forum which meets for the first time in February 2014.

“The citizens’ forum will help in many ways. Several people are interested in beautifying Cove and will bring up what they want to see in Cove, especially with businesses, and we will report that back to the Economic Development Commission,” she said.

Killeen Ranks 9th Best Performing City in Texas

Posted: 12/10/2013

KILLEEN, Texas – The Milken Institute released its annual Best-Performing Cities index last week ranking the Killeen – Temple – Fort Hood MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area) as the ninth best performing MSA in Texas and 51st best performing MSA in the nation. Out of 200 large cities ranked nationally, the Killeen – Temple – Fort Hood MSA ranked third in the nation for five-year wages and salaries growth and eighth in the nation for five-year job growth.

These rankings show an improvement of three spots in the state from 12th in 2012 to ninth this year and 12 spots in the nation from 63rd last year to 51st in 2013. The study analyzes and ranks 379 MSAs, dividing them into small and large cities. The small cities list ranked 179 MSAs with a population less than 256,000 and the large cities list ranked 200 MSAs with a population of more than 256,000.  With a population of 420,375, the Killeen – Temple – Fort Hood MSA was included on the large cities list where ranking 51st is a significant accomplishment considering 140 of the MSAs on this list have a larger population.

“Several aspects of this report are important, in my view,” said John Crutchfield, President/CEO of the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce. “First, our three-county MSA is among the smallest in the nation and we are still able to demonstrate very competitive economic results and have improved our position from last year. Second, this study ranks us third in the nation, out of 200 MSAs, in the category of five year wage and salary growth. These are very positive trends.”

The Milken Institute produces their Best-Performing Cities index annually to objectively measure which U.S. metropolitan areas are promoting economic vitality and to show where employment is stable and expanding, wages and salaries are increasing and economies and businesses are thriving. This report provides a fact-based, comprehensive metric system that highlights the job, wage and technology trends that shape current and future prospects.

Due to the state’s technology and energy assets, Texas cities fared well in the rankings with the Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos MSA claiming the top spot in the nation, followed by Dallas-Plano-Irving at seventh and Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown at eighth. Other Texas cities that ranked higher than Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood are San Antonio-New Braunfels at 12, Fort Worth-Arlington at 16, Corpus Christi at 17, Laredo at 22 and El Paso at 35.
