Paula’s office – Time to Decorate!

yellow cabinetsToday I was inspired to get started with decorating my new office space. I moved into my new space for Texas Heritage Real Estate back in November – thanks to my friend Melinda G. who had an extra office in her suite that was empty. It is now home to my resurrected real estate office in Killeen Texas. The space is perfect – the location is perfect – but I am a little surprised at myself for not having it all bling’d out and fabulous looking by now. Maybe all the other things that HAD to be done to get the biz back up and running took priority over the fun part – but I am soooo ready to do it now!

If I am totally honest, another part of the “wait” has been money. If money we no object, I would just load up and head to Austin and blow out my bank account at Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware… sadly- money is an object… a literal – tiny- little object – tiny like coins. So this decor project will be on a shoestring budget – as in a “used shoe string from an old boot in the back of a storage shed.” Fortunately for me, I am good at this kind of challenge.

So today, I was browsing through a decor themed blog and ran across a post about all the fabulous finds that are hidden away at stores like Goodwill! I LOVE GOODWILL!! I should post a sticky note on the dash of my car that says in bold print “GO TO GOODWILL FIRST” so I will remember to check it out when I am in need of something unique and fabulous! Over the years I have found TONS of cool stuff at our local Killeen area Goodwill stores. I think we have about 5 of them in a 15 mile radius – so plenty of treasures to be found. Last Christmas, I found a totally perfect Tiny Tikes desk and stool for Sadie – and when I say perfect I mean it looked like it was right out of the box. New they cost around $85 – and I took this one home for $20. Its still in her room and she uses it all the time. SCORE!

My challenge is to decorate my Texas Heritage Real Estate office with as many re-purposed items that I can find from stores like Goodwill… as well as yard sales, flea markets, etc… It may take some time, but I will note the project with pics and a running price list so we can see if it really was a bargain at the end! Either way, I know it will be fun!
